User-submitted video from The Linux Foundation Video Site video.linuxfoundation.org This one was a wild ride, only got three days to put this out, since I got aware of the contest very late and my squedual was full. So I decided to go nuts and make something crazy, crazy colors, crazy music, crazy peace... I would have liked to make it better, but time was short. I hope you will enjoy it, and at least have a good laugh. I tryed to express linux diversity by the colors, and like if it was explained to a total neofite. Feel free to vote, and to ask questions if you want ! Peace

ReplyDelete@sunspikes1 its really nice
ReplyDeletecool video
ReplyDeletethis is one of the best viedos.. i really like it thumbs up
ReplyDeleteI want penguin =D, GREAT ad, love it
ReplyDeleteI don't know why people is talking about Windows here, it wasn't used at all for this production. And just so this don't become a flame war here and we can keep it peacefull, I'm praying everyday to have an After Effect equivalent on the linux side, but sadly, there isn't yet... and AE is THE tool for motion graphics.
ReplyDelete@argotechnica I've not run Windows on a VM in linux yet... though I can't really think of a good reason to as of yet. Linux has got 90% of my software needs covered so far... though, I'd like to see Iclone and Picasa play nice on Linux...
ReplyDeleteI forgot also, Gimp used a lot for the different elements to be retouched, cleaned, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe video was made in only three days, so a lot of rush in it, I know a lot of things could have been tweaked, I had the deadline coming. The intention of the video is to be absurd, the Gnome G thing is on purpose ;-)
ReplyDeleteFor a three days prod, it's quite ok... :D
For the software used, it was mostly blender and after effects. Platforms are Linux and Mac.
For the sound we recoreded everything at a friends studio, and he uses Ableton Live. The voice is the beautiful singer Sanja from band Sayma.
I actually liked the narration. It made me more interested than other GNU/Linux commercials because of it's whackyness
ReplyDelete@pleabargain And "software _____ run begrudgingly in a Windows VM on Linux" doesn't count!
ReplyDeletevery nice video but the narration could have used a little work. btw, you don't pronounce the G in GNOME
ReplyDeleteYes what program/programs did you use to make this?
ReplyDeletecool comercial :)
What apps did you use to create this... please tell me they were on Linux...
ReplyDeletelove it... "Who wants penguin?" haha.. great video
ReplyDeletePor fin un video Digno para mostar...I'll mark it as favorite
ReplyDeletelolololol nice work
ReplyDeleteME GUSTARIA DAR A CONOCER SU VIDEO EN MI PAIS GRACIAS...
ReplyDeleteEn colombia ye se esta hablando de linux......tiene mucho campo y de mi parte voy a generar el cambio por la comunidad linuxera.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely inspirational!
ReplyDeletecoool vid ;) nice work...
ReplyDeleteThat's by far the best Ubuntu video I've ever seen in my life! Any plans for making another one showing 10.04?
ReplyDelete@t3hubern00b brill says it[IT]all sez lezlow
ReplyDeleteThis is just great and I have to go with schmidtbag and RobLoach: Best submission yet, wrong game is shown and mention it's the netbook version... But anyway, it shows linux actually in action and how a linux user can do what a windows user can do: use a computer! When is this coming to my tv during commercial break? GREAT WORK!
ReplyDeleteThe problem with linux is this: it doesn't "just work"; too much is required of the end user to get to the "just works" part. Another thing that keeps we Linux users away from the "just works" point is legalities (codecs, firmware, adobe flash, sun's java, sun's version of VBox, etc). These all prevent us from getting to where we need to be to gain the ground need to switch Windows and Mac users over.
ReplyDeletelook no penguins nor linux in this video. Ubuntu is doing what Linux did to GNU
ReplyDelete@ph4re9ooo1 Yes those are toilets its a very special artwork.
ReplyDelete@garfieldcdss I'd like to know that as well. I can seem to find a good video editor for Linux. Although it was likely just "blended". Anyways, great video. Although why use gnome-shell? Last I recall it wasn't installed by default. Hint for the future maybe?
ReplyDelete@ph4re9ooo1 - They're beach changing booths. Why would you think they were toilets???!!
ReplyDeleteLove Ubuntu
ReplyDeleteOn the "Share your life" message, the pictures are toilets or something elese ?
ReplyDeleteFinally, a Linux Foundation Video that actually shows Linux in action!
ReplyDeleteincomparably the best submission yet. the only thing i'd change is a game other than tetris, and mention that this is the netbook version. regardless, this is publishable quality
ReplyDeleteBest ad for Ubuntu I ever seen!!! Very good work!
ReplyDeleteI love this it just so good!! I love the sound track it's so joyful and beautiful :)

ReplyDeleteOMG.. AWESOME VIDEO...! Which video editor..?
ReplyDeleteThis is BRILLIANT! If you'd just change the logo to reflect the new Ubuntu logo, it would be TV-ready.
